A "weather dome radar" is commonly known as a radome, which is the weatherproof, weatherproof covering that protects a radar antenna, such as those used by the National Weather Service. The radome is made of material transparent to radio waves, protecting the radar's internal components from weather while allowing the radar signals to pass through to gather weather data like precipitation intensity and hail size.
